Overview

What Strong Brows is

Strong Brows is a permanent makeup brow technique designed for definition. Where microblading aims to mimic individual hair strokes and nano brows mimic them with even finer machine precision, Strong Brows builds a more sculpted, more graphic frame — closer to the look of a fully filled pomade brow than to natural-hair realism.

The technique combines pigmented shading with structured outline work. The artist maps the desired shape using bone structure as the reference, builds a defined outline at the top and bottom edges of the brow, and fills the body with a soft pigment shade that reads as finished makeup — not as raw pigment dots. The result is a brow that looks "done" without ever looking drawn on.

Who it's for

The right candidate

Strong Brows is the right pick if you fit one or more of these descriptions:

  • You wear a defined, fuller brow daily — pomade, heavier pencil, sculpted gel — and want that look semi-permanently.
  • You have strong facial features that can carry a bolder brow.
  • You have sparse or absent brow hair and you want both fill and frame.
  • You had microblading or nano brows years ago and the result has faded into something softer than you want.
  • You photograph well in defined-brow looks and want that for everyday.
  • You prefer a graphic, finished aesthetic over a hyper-natural one.

If you prefer a softer, more natural-hair look, see microblading or nano brows instead. They sit alongside Strong Brows on our PMU brow menu and produce intentionally different finishes.

Technique

How it's done

Every Strong Brows appointment begins with a detailed mapping session. The artist marks the start, arch, and tail of the brow using bone structure as the reference. We measure symmetry, draw the outline shape directly on the skin using a removable pencil, and confirm the shape with you in the mirror under studio lighting before any pigment opens.

Once the shape is approved, we apply topical anesthetic and begin the procedure. The technique uses a calibrated machine to deposit iron-oxide-based pigment in two passes — a defined outline pass at the upper and lower edges of the shape, then a soft fill pass through the body of the brow that builds saturation. The work is done in layers; we step back, evaluate, and adjust intensity throughout.

Plan for about 2 to 2.5 hours in the chair. The actual pigment work is closer to 60 to 90 minutes; the rest is mapping, numbing, and check-ins.

Comparison

Strong Brows vs nano brows vs microblading

Three permanent makeup brow techniques — different finishes, all long-lasting.

Choose Strong Brows for a defined, sculpted, "done" brow frame. Choose nano brows for the most natural-looking hair-stroke result. Choose microblading for the softest, most hair-like finish at the most accessible price point.

Longevity

How long Strong Brows lasts

Strong Brows lasts 2 to 4 years before needing a color refresh. The bolder, more saturated technique tends to fade slower than microblading because more pigment is deposited per square inch — but skin type, sun exposure, and skincare actives matter too. Oilier skin fades faster; covered, drier skin extends the life. Daily retinoids, vitamin C serums, and exfoliating acids near the brow also speed fading.

Most clients book a color-refresh touch-up every 18 to 36 months to maintain definition. Refreshes are quoted separately and are faster than the original procedure.

Pain & numbing

What it feels like

Discomfort is mild for most clients. We apply a topical anesthetic before the procedure begins to numb the surface. Once the skin is opened, a stronger secondary anesthetic activates and continues to numb the area as we work. Most clients describe the sensation as a light vibration or a warm scratching, not pain.

The brow area tolerates the procedure better than the lash line or lip. Clients commonly nap, scroll their phone, or chat with the artist through most of the work.

Healing

Day-by-day healing timeline

  1. Days 1-2: Bold phase. Brows look darker and more defined than they will be — sometimes by a wide margin. Mild swelling is normal. Resist the urge to wash.
  2. Days 3-7: Flaking phase. Light flaking begins. Pigment can look uneven, patchy, or "lighter than expected" as flakes lift. Do not pick.
  3. Days 7-14: Settling phase. Brows soften, even out, and start to read closer to the final color. Pigment may look much lighter than at day one — this is normal.
  4. Days 14-28: Re-emergence. Pigment that was hidden under healing skin re-emerges. Color and definition return.
  5. Weeks 4-6: Final color. The result settles. What you see now is what you live with for the next few years.
  6. Weeks 6-8: Perfecting touch-up. Included in the $750 fee. We address any uneven settling, build saturation where needed, and finalize the shape.
