Honest about distance

Studio City to West 3rd — over the canyon, not around it

Studio City and West 3rd Street live on opposite sides of the Hollywood Hills. The drive is about ten miles, and the time depends entirely on Coldwater Canyon, Laurel Canyon, or Beverly Glen — the three southbound passes between the Valley and the basin. At 10:30 AM mid-week, the trip is twenty minutes. At 5:30 PM Friday, it's a half hour or worse.

We don't pretend the drive is nothing. What we do say is that the bookings that pull Valley clients south are the ones where the chair actually matters. Permanent makeup, color correction, BLD Signature Trio, and master-level studio makeup are the four reasons Studio City regulars schedule the canyon route into a longer afternoon. For routine event makeup and bridal-party glam, many Valley clients book us on-location to skip the canyon commute entirely.

MUA's makeup masters work at Oscar-caliber level on red-carpet, film, and editorial productions, and are trusted by entertainment industry professionals and international celebrities — including Valley-based talent and a strong following from the Turkish entertainment community. For Valley industry pros who recognize master-level work, the canyon commute is a once-or-twice-a-month routine, not a barrier.

Getting here

The three south-canyon options from Studio City

Coldwater Canyon

The cleanest mid-day route from Ventura and Coldwater. Lands at Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills; left on Wilshire, left on Robertson, left on West 3rd.

Laurel Canyon

For Studio City residents east of Coldwater. Drops you at Sunset Boulevard; south on Crescent Heights, then Fairfax, then West 3rd.

Beverly Glen

Fastest off-peak option from Sherman Oaks-adjacent Studio City. Glen south to Wilshire, then east — a few extra miles, often fewer minutes.

From Studio City to MUA, plan 20–30 minutes mid-day and 30–45 minutes at canyon rush. Sundays are reliably easy in either direction. Parking on West 3rd is metered, with paid lots within a block and the Beverly Center garage as backup.

The studios down the road from your block

Studio City's name isn't accidental. CBS Studio Center (still locally called CBS Radford) sits at the eastern edge of the neighborhood. Universal Studios is a few miles south on Lankershim. Disney's Burbank lot, Warner Bros., and the wider Burbank production cluster are minutes east. The Valley industry community is tight, and the bookings reflect it.

Working talent & production

On-camera talent, showrunners, and senior crew book MUA for the same reason Hollywood-side professionals do: master-level work, calm chairs, and a single team that handles makeup, hair, color, and permanent makeup in one studio. Continuity color-tracking and HD-ready makeup formulas are the floor, not the ceiling.

Valley residents who don't work in industry

Many of our Valley regulars aren't in the business at all — they're people who appreciate craft and have decided MUA is worth the canyon. A monthly color, a quarterly keratin, an annual brow refresh. That's a typical Valley-client cadence.

International & Turkish entertainment community

MUA has a long-running following in the Turkish entertainment community working between Los Angeles and Istanbul productions, with many Valley-based industry pros booking permanent makeup and studio-grade work between projects. The makeup floor is built to handle that level of expectation.

Around the neighborhood

Studio City landmarks our clients live near

  • Ventura Boulevard — the spine of the south Valley. Most of our Studio City clients live within a block or two of it.
  • CBS Studio Center (CBS Radford) — at the eastern edge of Studio City. A common pre-call appointment route.
  • Tujunga Village — the small commercial strip off Ventura. Residential pocket where many of our regulars live.
  • Universal Studios — south Valley, just over Lankershim. Production talent and crew route from here for early-call appointments.
  • Lake Hollywood — between Studio City and the basin. Hike, then drive over Cahuenga to MUA.
  • Toluca Lake — adjacent east. Toluca Lake residents follow the same canyon routes as Studio City.
  • Valley Village & North Hollywood — adjacent north and east. We serve both with the same Valley pricing and on-location options.
On-location in the Valley

Skip the canyon — book us at your venue

For wedding-day, event, and same-day production work, on-location is the practical answer. We come to your home, hotel, or venue across Studio City, Toluca Lake, Valley Village, and the wider south Valley. Travel time and set-up are factored into the on-location quote.

Common Valley venues

  • Castaway / The Castaway Burbank
  • The Garland Hotel (North Hollywood)
  • Sportsmen's Lodge (Studio City — historic site, current redevelopment)
  • Tarzana, Encino, and Sherman Oaks private homes
  • Brand Park (Glendale)
  • Hotel Amarano Burbank

What's included on-location

  • Studio makeup on-location project-quoted

Studio City, asked & answered

How far is MUA Salon from Studio City?

MUA Salon is at 8336 West 3rd Street, roughly 10 miles south of Studio City over the Hollywood Hills. The drive runs 20 to 30 minutes — Coldwater Canyon and Laurel Canyon are the standard south routes.

Is the canyon drive worth it from Studio City?

For specialty work, yes. Permanent makeup, color correction, full balayage, and the BLD Signature Trio are the most common bookings that pull Valley clients south. For routine bridal-party glam and event makeup, on-location service usually makes more sense.

Do you work with Valley industry talent?

What's the best time of day to drive over the canyon?

Mid-morning weekdays (10 AM to 11:30 AM) and mid-afternoon (2 PM to 3:30 PM) are the cleanest. Avoid the 8–9 AM and 5–7 PM canyon rush. Sundays are reliably easy in either direction.

What permanent makeup do you offer Studio City clients?

Microblading at $500, nano brows at $750, lip blush at $750, eyeliner at $500, scalp micropigmentation at Contact for pricing, and the BLD Signature Trio at Contact for pricing. The PMU work is performed in-studio at 8336 West 3rd Street; we don't travel for PMU.

What hours is MUA Salon open?

Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Sunday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Studio City clients tend to book early or late to dodge canyon rush.
