Davines authorized retailer in Los Angeles: why we chose Davines and what to actually buy

We've retailed Davines at MUA Salon since 2020. Here's the honest working-stylist version of the brand story — what the authorized retailer program means, which products earn their price in LA's water and sun, and which ones I don't recommend even though they sit on our shelf.

What "authorized Davines retailer" actually means

Davines does not sell to Amazon. They don't sell to grocery-store chains. They don't sell to online marketplaces that resell without a professional relationship. The only ways to legitimately buy Davines in the US are:

When you see Davines on Amazon — and you will — it's either a diverted product (bought wholesale by a third party and resold), counterfeit, or expired stock. In three years of comparing, we've had clients bring in Amazon Davines that was formulated for a different climate, past its stability date, or had watered-down consistency. We won't refund product a client bought elsewhere. We can't.

Being "authorized" means Davines' Italian training team certified our stylists to use, mix, and retail the OI, Naturaltech, Essential Haircare, and Alchemic lines. Our team retrains annually. That's the boring but real value.

Why we chose Davines over Kevin Murphy, Oribe, or Bumble

Every LA salon retails a brand. We compared four before opening. The reasons we picked Davines aren't marketing — they're operational:

  1. B Corp certified since 2016. This isn't a badge Davines paid for. B Corp audits supply chain, worker treatment, and environmental impact every 3 years. Kevin Murphy is not B Corp. Oribe is not. Bumble is not.
  2. Carbon-neutral since 2018. Their Parma, Italy facility runs on renewable energy. They plant trees per bottle. LA clients notice; a lot of our color clients came from Silver Lake and Los Feliz specifically because we don't retail Kevin Murphy anymore.
  3. Formulated for real hair, not marketing slides. The OI oil is silicone-based (dimethicone) — this is not vegan-influencer-approved, but it's the reason hair stays smooth 3 days between washes in LA humidity swings. We prioritize what works.
  4. Consistent color line. Davines Mask With Vibrachrom is what we use behind the chair. When we retail the color-safe shampoo to match, the formulas talk to each other. This isn't true if we retailed one brand and used a different color line professionally.

Davines products we recommend for LA specifically

For LA's hard water

LA tap water is 100–200 ppm hard, with chlorine and chloramine. Straight from the tap, it dulls color and leaves mineral deposits on the shaft. What we recommend:

For LA sun damage

LA has some of the highest UV Index days in the continental US (average 8–10, June–September). Hair proteins denature at UV 8+. What we recommend:

For LA dryness (Santa Ana winds, AC year-round)

Products on our shelf we don't recommend to everyone

We're honest with clients:

Where to buy Davines in Los Angeles (authorized only)

These are the authorized Davines outlets in LA metro that we know are legitimate:

If you're not sure whether a shop is authorized, ask them to show you their Davines rep's name. Every authorized salon has one; unauthorized resellers won't.
